Nightingales is a devised piece of feminist theatre that uses storytelling, and visual and physical theatre, to tell the story of a girl who struggles to cope with the aftermath of her rape.
Using techniques from Epic Theatre, Nightingales dips in and out of a tangle of current news stories, popular culture, game shows and Greek myth, whilst drawing the audience into a conversation about the nature of rape culture and our own unconscious attitudes. The aim is to involve the audience in the telling of the story, with the outcome being that they themselves will begin to contemplate how a society can end up harming the victim of an attack more than the perpetrator.
It is still a work in progress, and is currently in development. It was last shown as part of Illuminate festival at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre in April 2015.
